War is coming

US Attorney-General Eric Holder announced on October 11 that Mansoor Arbabsiar, an Iranian-American citizen holding an Iranian passport, and Gholam Shakuri, an Iranian Quds Force member and relative of a senior terror mastermind in Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, had been arraigned because of plans by the Iranians to blow up the Saudi Arabian and Israeli Embassies in Washington, DC.

Having taken place on US soil, this is unquestionably an act of war against the United States and could guarantee the loss of the White House in 2012 for Barack Obama if he does nothing.

Obama would like to exit Iraq and Afghanistan, but cannot unless he first deals with Iran. Most of the improvised explosive devices used against American troops are coming from Iran.

Iran’s latest attempt to launch a terror attack in the US was a desperate move to intimidate President Obama, thinking they could scare him into a Jimmy Carter-like stupor. Instead, he boldly went public and exposed the plan, giving him moral justification to protect the Persian Gulf, by providing back-up support for Israel and impeding Iran’s retaliatory capabilities.

Since 1979, when it declared war on the United States, Iran has used its terror proxies in Lebanon, Afghanistan, Iraq, and elsewhere in the region to target US interests and allies. It is a screwdriver’s turn away from going nuclear.

If the US plays only the sanction card before the presidential election, a trillion-dollar atomic nuclear arms race will begin in the Sunni Middle East.  All of the Gulf Oil States will scramble to obtain nuclear reactors to defend themselves against Iran, a non-Arab terror state.

President Obama ran his first campaign on the platform of ending America’s wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. If Shi’a Iran goes nuclear, those wars will escalate, destabilizing the entire Middle East. The first Islamic nuclear terror state will utilize its proxy organizations, Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Mahdi Army (the second largest army in Iraq) as well as the millions of Shi’a who have been recruited throughout the Gulf States.

An atomic Iran would usher in an apocalyptic tsunami of terrorism against the Middle East and the world the likes of which has never been known. Iran’s nuclear umbrella would usher in unending terrorist activities throughout the Gulf Oil States, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, and Libya, as it attempts to establish an Islamic caliphate. Western countries would not be immune to Iran’s attacks.

Speculation is that Israel will undertake the mission to destroy Iran’s most important nuclear facilities by launching a massive air strike. Iran would undoubtedly hit Israel with missiles from proxy strongholds in Gaza and Lebanon and at the same time launch terrorist attacks on Jews worldwide by any means available—including suicide bombers.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has the strongest support and coalition in Israel’s history and will have its backing and that of the nation for an attack against Iran.

The Saudis would covertly back the attack and reward Israel with plausible deniability, because the survival of the House of Saud is at stake due to its proximity to Iran. After all, the Gulf is only 200 miles long.

Having written four major books on Iran in the last couple of years—Atomic Iran, Showdown with Nuclear Iran (which was endorsed by the former chief of General Staff of Israel, Moshe Ya’alon), The Final Move beyond Iraq, and Jimmy Carter: the Liberal Left and World Chaos—I am absolutely convinced that war is coming.

I believe Israel will strike Iran’s nuclear reactors before November of 2012 and the United States will use its military superiority to protect the Gulf Oil States and to stop Iran from retaliating against American interests in the Middle East.

The good news is that this could be the first 100 percent winnable terror war that America fights in the Middle East. The bad news for the Republicans is that it will surely inflate President Obama’s numbers and deflate the GOP momentum. If it happens within 90 days of the presidential election on Tuesday, November 6, 2012, it could guarantee Obama another four years.
