Slayer of settler family gets five life terms

JERUSALEM (JWN) — Hakim Awad, 18, one of the two terrorists who stabbed to death five members of the Fogel family in the West Bank settlement of Itamar in May, was sentenced last week to five consecutive life terms.

The Samaria District Military Court imposed a life sentence for each murder. Awad and his cousin, Amjad Awad, confessed to stabbing to death Udi and Ruth Fogel and three of their children–one an infant–while they slept.

“I don’t regret what I did and I’ll accept any punishment I get, even death, because I did it all for Palestine,” Amjad told police at the time of his arrest. He is still awaiting sentencing.
