Prime Minister releases statement rejecting external recognition of Palestinian state

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a resolute statement, detailing Israel’s diplomatic endeavors and firm stance amidst international pressures.

Netanyahu underscored Israel’s unprecedented diplomatic campaign over the past five months, which he credited for granting the military the latitude to achieve its war objectives. Despite sustained international pressure urging an early cessation of hostilities, Netanyahu emphasized Israel’s steadfastness in pursuit of its goals.

Highlighting a recent shift in international pressure, Netanyahu condemned attempts to unilaterally impose the establishment of a Palestinian state, which he argued would jeopardize Israel’s existence. In response, he presented a decision to the Government, firmly rejecting any external dictates regarding the Palestinian statehood issue. Netanyahu stressed that this decision garnered unanimous support within the Government, reflecting a cohesive stance against international interference in Israel’s affairs.

Netanyahu announced his intention to seek approval from the Knesset for the decision, expressing confidence in its broad endorsement. He emphasized the existence of a robust consensus within Israel opposing external attempts to impose a Palestinian state.

“Everyone knows that it was me who – for decades – has blocked the establishment of a Palestinian state that would endanger our existence,” the prime minister stated. “My position has been, and remains, clear. It has only been reinforced since the terrible massacre of October 7.”

Reaffirming his longstanding opposition to a Palestinian state, Netanyahu reiterated Israel’s commitment to maintaining security control over territories west of the Jordan River, including Judea, Samaria, and Gaza. He emphasized that this commitment remained steadfast regardless of any future settlement agreements.

In light of recent events, particularly referencing a terrible massacre on October 7, Netanyahu underscored the imperative for Israel to autonomously determine its future. He called upon all Zionist parties to support the proposal presented to the Knesset, asserting the necessity of safeguarding Israel’s sovereignty and security. Through his address, Netanyahu portrayed Israel as resolute in defending its interests and autonomy amidst international pressures and regional challenges.
