Netanyahu visits IDF headquarters, makes remarks on Israel’s safety

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the IDF operational headquarters at the Kirya in Tel Aviv on Wednesday evening.

Netanyahu attended during the “Firm Hand” exercise, accompanied by Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, IDF Chief-of-Staff Lt.-Gen. Herzi Halevi, Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff Tzachi Braverman and Prime Minister’s Military Secretary Maj.-Gen. Avi Gil.

“We are working around the clock to safeguard the security superiority of the State of Israel. In this exercise, which simulates a very large-scale attack, the IDF – including the Air Force – have again demonstrated that its capabilities are unlimited,” the prime minister said, according to a news release from his office.

Prime Minister Netanyahu first held an exercise-level forum with the participation of the Defense Minister, the IDF Chief-of-Staff and members of the IDF General Staff Forum, in which they were presented with the various exercise scenarios that were tested in several areas. They were also presented with assessments and the preparedness of IDF combat units from all corps in various areas at the same time.

In the second part of the exercise, which was joined by Air Force Commander Maj.-Gen. Tomer Bar, Prime Minister Netanyahu, Defense Minister Gallant and IDF Chief-of-Staff Lt.-Gen. Halevi observed an operational model of Air Force attacks in exceptional circumstances as both part of the exercise and part of the multi-year plan and the adaptation of the IDF to meet future threats.

The visit came one day after Netanyahu made remarks following the terrorist shooting death of Meri Tamari.

“I send heartfelt condolences to the family of Meir Tamari, who was murdered today in a shooting attack near his home community of Hermesh. May G-d avenge him,” he said in a statement.

“Our forces are currently in pursuit of the terrorists in order to settle accounts with them, and they will be settled forthwith,” he added. “Just as we have found every terrorist and closed accounts with them, we will do so this time as well.”
