The Israel Air Force carried out targeted airstrikes in Khan Yunis in southern Gaza, eliminating individuals involved in the October 7 attack, military and intelligence officials reported on Tuesday.
The operation aimed to neutralize key figures linked to the massacre while avoiding harm to civilians in the densely populated area.
The strikes were based on intelligence provided by the Shin Bet, the Southern Command, and the Intelligence Directorate. Military officials emphasized their efforts to minimize collateral damage, citing additional aerial surveillance, the use of precision-guided munitions, and meticulous intelligence analysis to ensure the accuracy of the operation.
The military accused Hamas of deliberately operating from civilian areas, using residents as human shields to protect their activities.
The airstrikes are part of an ongoing Israeli campaign to dismantle Hamas’s infrastructure in Gaza following the October 7 attack, which resulted in the deaths of hundreds of Israeli civilians and soldiers. Military officials have stated that their focus remains on targeting high-ranking operatives and individuals directly involved in planning and executing attacks.
Earlier in the week, the Israel Defense Forces confirmed the elimination of Sa’ed Saeed Zaki Dahnoun, a senior commander in the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. Dahnoun, identified as a company commander and deputy head of the rocket division in northern Gaza, was reportedly involved in the October 7 attack. He is also accused of orchestrating multiple ambushes against Israeli forces in recent weeks.
The operation in Khan Yunis underscores Israel’s intensified military efforts to neutralize threats emanating from Gaza while continuing to face criticism over the humanitarian toll of its strikes. Israeli officials have reiterated their commitment to limiting civilian casualties despite the challenges posed by combat in urban areas where militants are deeply embedded.
