The Israel Defense Forces announced the deaths of three combat soldiers and a paramedic during fighting in the southern Gaza Strip on Tuesday.
Captain Daniel Mimon Toaff, 23, from Moreshet, served as a deputy company commander in the Shaked Battalion of the Givati Brigade. Staff Sergeant Amit Bakri, 20, from Yoshivia, and Staff Sergeant Dotan Shimon, 21, from Elazar in Gush Etzion, were also members of the Shaked Battalion. Paramedic Staff Sergeant Agam Naim, 20, from Kibbutz Mishmarot, served in the 52nd Battalion of the 401st Brigade.
During operations in the Tel Sultan neighborhood of Rafah, Givati Brigade troops were inside a building when an IED detonated, causing a partial collapse and resulting in the deaths of the four soldiers. Naim is noted as the first female combatant to die in ground operations in Gaza during the current campaign.
The Paramedics Association issued a statement honoring Naim, highlighting her role as a pioneer paramedic in combat. They praised her courage, dedication, and professionalism in her efforts to save the lives of fellow soldiers under challenging conditions.
Several other soldiers were injured in the incident, including an officer and two soldiers from the Shaked Battalion who sustained severe wounds. Two additional soldiers from the same battalion were moderately injured. In a separate confrontation in southern Gaza, an officer from the Givati Reconnaissance Unit was severely injured by RPG fire.
A medical evacuation helicopter was dispatched to transport the injured to Soroka Hospital in Beer Sheva. IDF authorities notified their families of the situation.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog expressed his condolences on social media, mourning the loss of the soldiers and offering support to their families. He emphasized the bravery of the fallen and the impact of their sacrifices.
