IDF ends successful Shifa Hospital operations after two weeks

Israeli military forces have initiated their withdrawal from al-Shifa Hospital in northern Gaza after a two-week operation, as reported by both the IDF and Arab media outlets on Monday morning.

The Hamas-linked Safa News Agency reported clashes between Israeli forces and militants near the hospital. Palestinian media sources alleged extensive damage to the hospital, rendering it non-functional. They claimed the IDF had demolished multiple floors and set fire to the remaining structure and nearby buildings.

A week into the operation, IDF spokesperson R.-Adm. Daniel Hagari stated that Hamas had launched mortar attacks at the hospital complex, a claim subsequently confirmed by Hamas itself. Al Mayadeen, affiliated with Hezbollah, cited a local correspondent warning civilians against visiting the hospital due to ongoing military activities.

The IDF confirmed the completion of the operation in the Shifa Hospital area, with the withdrawal of special forces units. IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi hailed the operation as successful, highlighting significant achievements in neutralizing terrorists.

Throughout the two-week operation, the IDF reported the elimination of around 200 terrorists and the apprehension of over 800 terror suspects, a majority of whom were identified as members of Hamas or Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

In further developments, the IDF conducted airstrikes on Hamas military compounds in central Gaza and carried out precision strikes against terror elements posing threats to Israeli troops. Additionally, IDF Commando troops engaged and neutralized terrorists in the Al-Amal area of Khan Yunis while seizing weapons and explosives.

The operation also concludes as Israel faces both a controversial upcoming operation in Rafah and ongoing threats at its northern border from Hezbollah forces. The Rafah military actions have faced scrutiny from the U.S. and other nations, though Israel states the efforts are necessary to eliminate Hamas and that the city is the location where many hostages are held.
