Hezbollah targets Golan Heights ahead of Israel’s likely Rafah operation

Hezbollah, an Iranian-backed terrorist organization, claimed to have targeted Israel with “dozens” of Katyusha rockets on May 6.

The attack focused on the Golan Heights, where sirens sounded in various central Golan areas. According to Hezbollah’s statement to Al-Mayadeen, the group aimed its assault at the “Golan division headquarters.”

In its report, the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon – Hezbollah asserted that it had launched the attack on Monday morning, targeting the headquarters of the Golan Division (210th) at the Nafah base with numerous Katyusha rockets.

This incident is part of a recent escalation of Hezbollah’s activities. On May 5, it launched an attack on Kiryat Shmona with 20 rockets and conducted another assault in the north with approximately 40 projectiles.

Hezbollah typically justifies its attacks as responses to Israeli actions. In this instance, it blamed Israel for an alleged attack on the Bekaa region. Hezbollah’s escalation coincides with Iran’s monitoring of events in Gaza, amidst Israeli calls for civilians to evacuate eastern Rafah.

This suggests that Iranian-backed proxies and terrorist groups may intensify their attacks. Iran has reportedly encouraged groups in Iraq and Bahrain to carry out such assaults. However, the veracity of these claims remains uncertain, as they often lack substantial evidence.

Bahrain, a signatory of the Abraham Accords alongside the UAE, presents challenges for terrorist groups operating with Iranian support due to its closer alignment with regional peace efforts.

Concerning Hezbollah, the situation differs. The group possesses a substantial arsenal, and when it claims responsibility for attacks, it generally does not exaggerate. The claims also come as multiple drone and missile strikes over the weekend at multiple locations aimed at the IDF, including four soldiers killed in an attack in Gaza.
