Hamas launched five rockets at central Israel from Khan Yunis in the Gaza Strip on Monday, triggering rocket sirens in the area starting at 11:00 a.m. local time.
Alerts were issued in Tel Aviv, Kfar Chabad, Rishon Lezion, and several other locations throughout central Israel, prompting widespread concern among residents.
The military confirmed that rocket impacts were detected, leading to immediate responses from emergency services. Magen David Adom reported that paramedics in the Sdot Dan Regional Council area provided medical assistance and transported two women in their 30s to Shamir Medical Center after they sustained light wounds from shrapnel.
Upon arrival, emergency responders found the injured women conscious, receiving initial medical treatment on-site. MDA reported that several individuals were also treated for anxiety, having been injured while seeking shelter from the blasts.
In Kfar Chabad, a direct hit was confirmed, with Benjamin Lifshitz, deputy head of the Sdot Dan Regional Council, describing a small crater at the impact site. He noted that two women inside a house were injured by shrapnel and had been evacuated for medical care. Lifshitz emphasized the extent of damage to buildings and vehicles in the area, expressing concern about what could have happened if the rockets had hit a less stable structure.
Authorities stated that police forces were active in the Holon area, where shrapnel from an interceptor was discovered. The incident raised alarms about the ongoing threat posed by rocket fire from Gaza, particularly during a time of heightened tension.
Shortly after the sirens sounded, Hamas’s al-Qassam Brigades claimed responsibility for the rocket fire, asserting they had targeted areas deep within Israeli territory. This attack came as Israel marked the one-year anniversary of the October 7 massacre perpetrated by Hamas in southern Israel, adding a somber context to the events of the day.
Security analysts indicated that the timing of the attacks may have been intended as a provocative reminder of the ongoing conflict and the group’s capabilities. As the situation develops, both local authorities and national security forces are on high alert, monitoring for further threats and ensuring the safety of residents in affected areas.
