Terror threat to Israelis abroad at all-time high

JERUSALEM (JWN)—Israelis traveling and living abroad have never been at a higher risk for terrorist acts, the outgoing head of Israel’s Counter-Terrorism Bureau, Nitzan Nuriel, warned on Thursday.

Nuriel told Army Radio that Iran operates “a unit whose sold objective is to carry out terrorist attacks abroad,” noting the recent attacks and attempted attacks on Israeli diplomats in India, Georgia, and Thailand, which appear to be growing in frequency.

He cautioned Israelis to take every precaution while traveling, particularly to follow travel alerts. The IDF issued a similar instruction on Wednesday, ordering troops not to reveal their travel plans on their Facebook pages.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu announced the appointment of Nuriel’s successor, Eitan Ben-David, a former senior Shin Bet official.
